EXPLORE
AFRICAN WILDERNESS
BY DRIVING THROUGH IT !
DRIVE
THROUGH THE SCENIC TERRIAN OF KENYA AND TANZANIA ON THE ROUTES USED
BY THE EAST AFRICAN SAFARI CLASSIC RALLY AS A REGULARITY EVENT.

The
2009 Safari Challenge will run alongside the 2009 East African Safari
Classic Raly. Its an awesome opportunity to drive some fabulous
roads in both Kenya and Tanzania competitively whilst having time
on your hands to see both of these wonderful countries in a way
that the normal tourist will never experience. Many of the roads
used have been stages on the Safari since its first run in 1953,
then called The Coronation Safari. For 2009 there are some new roads
in use taking the event even further into the bush and seeing wildlife
along the route!!
Each
day will see 2 or 3 Regularities on loose and sometimes rough roads
with an added bonus: we are going to run some higher, but still
safe, average speeds!! The regularities will all be on the same
roads the Rally is using so you will get to see some absolutely
amazing countryside. On most days, after the regularities, we plan
to give you a shorter route to the finish so you can then either
watch the rally somewhere or retire to a great hotel. You will,
most definitely, see sights that will amaze you.
So,
where does it go? The Start and Finish are on Mombasa's North Coast
at the Whitesands Hotel. This is directly on the beach and has almost
all of the facilities you will need. It's also within easy taxi
distance of one of the best seafood restaurants in the world!! And
if you have a ground floor room you can be in the pool in 15 seconds!!
Two nights, not consecutive, will be spent at Voi Wildlife lodge,
two nights at The Ngurudoto Mountian Lodge in Arusha and two nights
alongside Lake Naivasha at either the Simba Lodge or Naivasha Country
Club. The icing on the cake is two nights at one of the great lodges
in Amboseli Game Reserve with a complete day off to enable you to
see a huge variety of animals.
The
event is run by the same organization as the Classic Safari Rally
with Surinder Thatthi heading up the team and with TWM acting as
consultants for the Challenge. Mike Summerfield has been Deputy
Clerk of the Course of the main rally since the first one in 2003
so knows the event inside out. Ron Jackson will be Clerk of the
Course of the Challenge and will be assisted by at least one of
our regular Redshirts. The marshalling team is all Kenyan and will
be experienced crew from previous Safari Rallies.
This
really is a fantastic opportunity to visit two of the most picturesque
countries in the world whilst fulfilling your competitive urges!!
